Tiny Hands Let the Butterfly Fly

Legendary Education Foundation x Greenville Anglo-Chinese Kindergarten | World Book Day Book Donation Initiative

April 23rd marks World Book Day. Under the gentle sunlight at the podium of New Kwai Fong Garden in Kwai Chung, volunteers from the Legendary Education Foundation sat alongside students from Greenville Anglo-Chinese Kindergarten, sharing a warm and fulfilling morning.

On the worktables, book pages rested like butterflies waiting to spread their wings. Volunteers and children worked together to package copies of “The Chronicles of Butterfly Greenville Garden.” They carefully affixed stamps and headed to the post office together to mail these tokens of life education to 53 primary schools across the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing districts. Their goal was to ensure that the story of the Common Mormon butterfly—from larva and pupa to its eventual emergence—continues to leave an indelible mark in the hearts of more children.

This children’s book documents the authentic journey of the kindergarten’s teachers and students in raising Common Mormon butterflies. The students were involved every step of the way, starting from caring for tiny butterfly eggs and learning the virtue of patient guardianship. By feeding the larvae daily, they learned to bid a gentle farewell when faced with loss; by quietly observing the pupal transformation, they understood the meaning of silent courage; and finally, by witnessing the release of the adult butterflies, they grasped the grace within the cycle of life.

Through observation and companionship, the children naturally came to understand the flow of life and death, cultivating respect, appreciation, and empathy. Like the life cycle of a butterfly, reading teaches children to embrace the ups and downs of life and respect every stage of growth. Through the participation of these tiny hands, life education has quietly taken root.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every student at Greenville Anglo-Chinese Kindergarten for their dedication and heart. May “The Chronicles of Butterfly Greenville Garden” be like a butterfly’s gentle wingbeat, inspiring countless souls to emerge from their cocoons and accompanying the next generation as they grow.
