Spreading Love in Choi Hung Estate: Elderly Relocation Support and Goodie Bag Initiative

As Choi Hung Estate prepares for its redevelopment, residents are often more concerned with the practicalities of daily life than the grand scale of the project. Between May and June, the Legendary Education Foundation, in collaboration with Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service (YMMSS), organized a series of Relocation Support Workshops to walk alongside the elderly residents. Our service footprint extended across nine blocks of the estate: Tan Fung House, Sheung Pik House, Pak Suet House, Kam Wan House, Chi Mei House, Hung Ngok House, Kam Han House, Luk Ching House, and Chui King House.

During these workshops, we provided:

•Practical Home Guides: Interactive games were used to help seniors easily master tips for pest prevention and home cleaning.

•Sincere “Listening Sessions”: We created a space to hear the elderly’s concerns and expectations regarding their relocation and the changes to their social circles.

•Heartwarming Goodie Bags: Personally packaged by our team, these bags contained practical supplies and heartfelt wishes, providing tangible support and warmth to the residents.

Rather than a one-way “instruction” on home maintenance, these sessions were about listening to stories. The vitality shown by the seniors during the games, along with their open-mindedness and optimism in the face of change, provided profound inspiration to our volunteers.

Building a warm community is never just a slogan; true support begins with supplies but runs deeper with companionship. We extend our gratitude to Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service for their collaboration, allowing us to walk with these wonderful seniors.
